Tools first. Then build packs. Then ready-built.

The shop opens in three phases. First up: professional solar design tools that run in your web browser, each with its own PDF instruction manual. Prices will be in AUD, with secure checkout by Stripe.

  1. Phase 1First to launch

    Solar design tools

Four browser-based tools for solar designers and installers, delivered as a zip file.

  2. Phase 2In the workshop

    Build packs

Complete ESP32 and Pico W projects: code, enclosures, parts list and manual.

  3. Phase 3Further out

    Ready-built

The same projects, built, tested and ready to install.

Phase 1

Solar design tools

Quote faster and check your designs with confidence. Each tool is a single file that opens in any web browser: no install, no subscription and no account.

In every zip

Download, unzip, open. That's it.

  • The toolOne HTML file that runs in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, even offline.
  • PDF instruction manualA step-by-step guide with a worked example, how every calculation works, and how to set up your branding.
  • Your branding on reportsAdd your logo and business details, then print or save a report to hand to your customer.
  • Your data stays with youNothing is uploaded. Customer details and meter data never leave your computer.
PV String Sizing Calculator: module data entry on the left, and a results panel showing all checks pass, 4 to 14 modules per string, and a chart of each MPPT input against the inverter's voltage window.

Solar design tool

PV String Sizing Calculator

Check a string design against the inverter before you quote it.

  • Checks every MPPT input for maximum voltage, MPPT window, start-up voltage and current, at the site's coldest and hottest temperatures.
  • Shows every string length that fits, with a clear pass or fail on each check.
  • Save the modules and inverters you use most, ready for the next job.
Roof Panel Fit Planner: a scaled drawing of a trapezoid roof face with 11 panels laid out around a vent pipe, inside dashed clearance lines.

Solar design tool

Roof Panel Fit Planner

How many panels fit on each roof face, with a scaled drawing for the quote.

  • Rectangle, trapezoid and triangle (hip end) roof faces, up to eight per job.
  • Tries portrait and landscape, picks the layout that fits more, and works around vents and skylights.
  • Click panels off for shading or access, then download the drawing as a PNG or SVG.
Voltage Drop and Cable Size Helper: a PV string cable run with its inputs on the left, and a result of 1.46% voltage drop, within the 3% target, with power lost, longest run and smallest cable size.

Solar design tool

Voltage Drop and Cable Size Helper

Check every cable run in a solar and battery system.

  • PV strings, battery cables and the inverter's AC connection: DC, single-phase or three-phase.
  • Gives the drop in volts and percent, the power lost, the longest run that meets your target, and the smallest cable that would.
  • Adds up runs in series to check the total voltage rise to the point of supply.
Commercial Solar Savings: a table comparing system sizes from 30 to 200 kWp, with the 50 kWp system marked best value at $17,126 a year saving and a 2.8 year payback. Charts of annual saving by system size and the site's load, solar and grid import across an average weekday.

Commercial Solar Savings from Interval Data

See what solar would have done for a business, using its own meter data.

  • Load the site's NEM12 file from the distributor or retailer, and compare up to ten system sizes.
  • Works out self-consumption, export, demand charge savings, STCs and payback for each size.
  • Handles peak, shoulder and off-peak tariffs, demand charges and export limits.

These tools are design aids for qualified designers and installers. You remain responsible for checking each design against the current Australian standards, the manufacturers' instructions and network requirements. Each licence covers use within one business.

Phase 2

Build packs

Complete, downloadable projects for ESP32 and Raspberry Pi Pico W boards, like the solar LoRa builds on the Projects in the field page. Everything you need to build one yourself, in one download.

  • MicroPython codeTested code for ESP32 and Pico W, ready to load with Thonny.
  • 3D-printed enclosuresPrint-ready files for cases that actually fit the board.
  • Bill of materialsEvery part you need, so you can order once.
  • Instruction manualWiring, setup and testing, plus the gotchas I hit so you don't have to.

Phase 3

Ready-built

Rather not build it yourself? The build pack projects will also be available fully assembled and tested, ready to install.
